How well do you read your local papers? If you are the sort of person who reads them cover to cover you’ll have come across the list of Country Market dates which appears regularly. Maybe you have already discovered this well kept secret, if you haven’t you don’t know what you are missing!! Every week in different parts of Northern Ireland, groups of enthusiastic producers meet together to bring the best of home produce to you – the consumer. Good quality items just like mother (or Granny) used to make not only baked goods such as cakes, scones, pies, tray bakes etc. but jams, chutneys and fudge. Also freshly harvested vegetables in season, home grown plants and a huge range of handicrafts if you are looking for that special gift. Everything on sale will have been produced by the members, who will be on hand to give advice if asked. In these increasingly busy times how refreshing it is to be able to buy the truly home made instead of supermarket mass produced.
If, on the other hand, you are one of the ever decreasing talented bodies that still bakes,sews, knits or gardens, you might like to turn your abilities into cash by becoming a producer with your nearest branch of Country Markets. We are always on the look out for new members, and whilst it will involve some commitment on your part ( and occasionally some hard work ) – the rewards can make it worthwhile. As well as earning some extra cash by turning your hobby into a business, all members agree that socially the market can be great fun. Some producers are happy to stay small and others are keen to expand and produce as much as they are able. Either way there is room in the market for everyone. The emphasis is on working together to make the market a success and to make sure the customers return again and again.
